Screw Auger Falls (Grafton Notch)

This waterfall is located in Grafton Notch State Park, just outside of Newry, Maine. The falls is extremely popular, possibly the most visited waterfall in the state, given it’s only a short walk from the large parking area/rest stop directly on Route 26.
The upper wading area features a 4 foot Block Waterfall during heavy water as well as plenty of areas for sunbathing.
The main falls is a 25 foot plunge that forms a translucent curtain of whitewater dropping over the lip of a broad granite ledge. Below the main falls, the Bear River travels through a gorge, dropping an additional 30 feet in a series of cascades, shallow pools, and grottoes.
