Portraits that Start with a Conversation
Every session starts with a free consultation. We talk about what you want the portraits to show, what would help you feel comfortable, and what I can deliver. You can ask questions, share what’s important to you, and get a clear idea of what to expect from me before deciding to book. If we decide I’m the right photographer for you, we’ll use what we discussed to plan the session around your vision.
The Portrait Process
-

Consult
Together, we discuss your needs, what matters to you, and what I can deliver. Then we decide whether I’m the right photographer for your session.
-

Book and Collaborate
If we’re a good fit for each other, we’ll choose a date and location and then plan the details of your session together so you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera and we can focus on capturing what matters most to you.
-

Photograph Together
Work together during the session to ensure you get the best possible images from our session. When the time and location allow, review images during the session and make adjustments in the moment.
-

Review, Select, and Deliver
I do my best to ensure you have your preview gallery within 48 hours of the session. You can choose a live reveal session, either remotely or at a location of your choosing, or I can simply deliver your preview gallery and you can choose the images for retouching and determine how you would like your final images and prints delivered.
Theater Photography: From Rehearsal to Curtain Call
From rehearsal through performance, I work with theater companies to create the images each production needs: rehearsal and performance photography, cast headshots, character portraits, and promotional photos. My experience as a photographer, actor, sound designer, and set builder gives me a working understanding of what happens onstage and behind the scenes. I use that perspective to anticipate the action, work with the production’s lighting designer, and make images that fit the show.

A Bit About Me
I’m Richard Snow, a photographer in Windham, Maine. I photograph people in different ways: families together, individuals and headshots, high school seniors working on a big transition, and performers stepping into a character. I like portraits that feel like the people in them, whether that means a simple, natural setting or a more theatrical look.
Theater is a big part of how I see photography. I’ve created promotional photographs for Portland Players’ production of American Idiot and provided headshots and character portraits for several Cumberland County Children’s Theater productions. At Schoolhouse Arts Center, where I also serve on the board of directors, I’ve been involved in many productions and in multiple roles. I’ve also provided photography and videography services for productions at Windham Middle and High Schools. And don’t forget - I’ve spent time onstage as an actor and singer, too.
That experience shapes how I work with posing, movement, and light. I make traditional portraits as well as theatrical images with deliberate lighting and effects, choosing an approach that fits the person and the portrait experience that they want.
My years as a network engineer has taught me to plan around complex systems and solve technical problems—a mindset I bring to both portrait sessions and theatrical productions.
