Rattlesnake Gorge and Pool

While this is not the grandest of waterfalls on my list, the swimming hole certainly is a Maine Treasure. Rattlesnake Flume is a 10-foot plunge dumping into the narrow gorge walls. The water is rarely above knee deep, but the rocks are slick and the water is frigid year round.
Rattlesnake Pool is fed by small 3-4 foot horsetails and is teal green in color due tot he overhanging hemlocks and offers fantastic, albeit extremely cold, swimming.

Please keep in mind that these two treasures are located on Private Property. The owners of the property have allowed Rattlesnake Pool and Gorge to remain open to the public for several generations, but they do ask that you stay on the Chatham Trail Association trails at all times. When visiting, please be respectful to the land owners and leave no trace to keep this land open to the public.
