Smalls Falls

Smalls Falls is located at a rest area on Route 4, just south of Rangeley, Maine. With it’s scenic waterfall, colorful gorge, and fantastic swimming holes, this rest area attracts visitors from all over New England.
Smalls Falls consists of (from Top to Bottom) a 12-foot Horsetail Slide; a 25-foot segmented waterfall (Plunge and Horsetail); a 14-foot fanning horsetail that drops into a deep, oblong pool; and finally a 3-foot cascade that falls into the circular pool below.
You will often see people swimming below each of the falls, just beware of the people jumping into the third pool from above - this is highly dangerous and has led to many fatalities at this location. The only detraction from this area is the chain-link fence keeping you safe from falling over the rock walls into the falls and pools below.
