Artist’s Bridge (Sunday River Covered Bridge)

Built in 1872, this bridge is an 87-foot Paddleford Truss and was closed to traffic in 1958. As this bridge is now only open to foot traffic, it regularly plays hosts to gatherings and weddings. It’s official name is the Sunday River Covered Bridge, but is called Artist’s Bridge both because of it’s reputation as the most photographed and painted coved bridge in Maine as well as being a favorite of artist John Enncking, who could be seen working by the bridge most days he was staying in Maine.
